Wild Nothing team up with Beach Fossils for the long awaited ethereal Out in the Way tour. Even after being put on hold and rescheduled due to the pandemic, the two bands still managed to make this happen. Celebrating the 10 year anniversary of both the bands first records Gemini and What a Pleasure, It was truly a nostalgic and magical night. Being a monumental milestones in each of their career, and the kickstart to their deserved success. Both albums hold such sentimental value to me, and will always transcend me back to another celestial time and space.

Taking the stage first under a cold starry night sky was Wild Nothing. Frontman Jack Tatum opens up the set with classics off the 2010 album Gemini and 2012 hit album Nocturne playing fan favorites such as, “Summer Holiday”, “Counting Days”, and “O Lilac”. His tender hearted lyrics encapsulates an indescribable feeling, filling the room with indigo blue and golden haze lights making a soft-glow. His most recent EP Laughing Gas (2020) also made an appearance to the setlist with the hit single “Blue Wings”, which almost made the cut for the album Indigo (2018). Tatum describes the track as, “ a song about walking through to the other side of crippling self-doubt with the help of someone you love. It’s a reminder to myself not to let things spiral, hard as it may be at times.”

Up next in their hometown Brooklyn, NY is Beach Fossils. The venue is jam packed with fans, friends, and family to support the band consisting of, Dustin Payseur, Jack Doyle Smith, Tommy Davidson, and Anton Hochheim in the heart of their city. The band played a beautifully balanced selection of songs off the past albums, Beach Fossils (2010), Clash the Truth (2013), Somersault (2017), and What a Pleasure (2011)Fans were energetically crowd surfing from the start of the set to the very end of the night. It was incredible to see a room full of people all coming together and enjoying music again. To end the show Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing collaborate to perform their famous duet “Out in the Way”. One of my favorite songs for years and seeing the two play it live was out of this world legendary.
