Summerland Tour

By: Jennifer Pinckney

This amazing tour has been happening now since 2012, and the Summerland Tour has no plans to change anytime soon. The founder of the tour is the singer of Everclear, Art Alexakis. I was very excited to catch the show on this perfect night in Denver, Colorado at the Levitt Pavilion.

Doors opened promptly at 5pm with many fans bringing their blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the show from the grass. The venue had a lot of space and was outdoors as well.  The first band up was Wheatus. If you haven’t heard of them, maybe you have heard their song “Teenage Dirtbag,” which they released back in the mid 2000s. These guys have been around for quite sometime, and they are here back again on this cool tour to prove to us that they are still around. They went on stage at 6pm and got the opportunity to help wake us up a bit before the other bands came on stage. Their sounds was fun and upbeat, plus with 2 female back- up singer/dancers, it wasn’t hard to catch our attention.

Next up was none-other than the one and only Living Colour. More people filled the are to catch these guys. They were not to be missed. They caught our attention with their bright colored hair, outfits and unshy personalities. Plus, we couldn’t miss screaming out to the classic “Cult of Personality.”

Following Living Colour was one of my personal favorites, Hoobastank. Before they came on stage, Art (from Everclear) came on stage to thank everyone for coming and of course for all the amazing musicians who share the stage with him. Once Hoobastank took the stage, front man Doug Robb showed us that he still has such great vocals and movement. Their set was upbeat, loud and caused your head to bang along. They played “The Reason,” “Crawling in the Dark,” “Inside of You,” and “Born to Lead.” I wanted to hear much more songs from them but they had a schedule to follow. Great seeing them still going strong.

Our headliners tonight needed no introduction. Everyone here came to see and sing along with Everclear. We love seeing the guys on stage and singing the classics, “Father of Mine,” “I Will Buy You a New Life,” and of course “Santa Monica.” Art still rocked the stage and his voice is still in very good shape. Well done guys. Can’t wait for Summerland 2022.
