Derek Sanders

Monday night was an intimate, acoustic evening at the High Watt. We were surrounded by such a colossal amount of talent from both new and familiar faces. Mike Jansen kicked off the show. The second he opened his mouth, everyone was captivated. He has an incredible voice, paired with raw emotion. Just Mike and his guitar were enough to keep the room in awe. Mike sang a mixture of songs from his previous bands (Might Fox, 1994, and American Science), as well as a new solo song. We are instantly hooked and will be on the lookout for more music from Mike!

As you know by now, we are huge fans of Stages & Stereos over at Savvage Media. They are one of the best live bands and some of the sweetest people you will ever meet. This was one of my favorite sets that I have seen S&S play. They played my two favorite songs, “Anchorless” and “Save it for Someone Else.” What I love most about watching them perform is how interactive they are with each other as well as the crowd. S&S just released a new song, “Ex-Wolf” (which slaps so hard!), off their forthcoming album, Breakup. The album is available on cassette now (with a digital download) and will be on all streaming services soon! Please check out Stages & Stereos, they are your next favorite band - I promise!

It was cool to see Derek do something so different and personal, and the crowd was very responsive to his set. We all know Derek Sanders as the frontman of Mayday Parade. We are used to seeing him swinging his mic around and dancing all over the stage as he rocks out. Derek recently released a solo acoustic EP, My Rock and Roll Heart, which features an original song mixed in with covers of some of our favorite rocks songs. Derek’s set included these songs, and we got to see a more vulnerable side to him. His set was enjoyable, showing a different side, though still incredible. He also brought out Daniel Lancaster [Stages & Steroes] to sing “Jamie All Over” (Mayday Parade) and “A Praise Chorus” (Jimmy Eat World). Such an enjoyable concert, and we can’t wait to hear more from Derek - both solo and in Mayday Parade!
