Sink In - Ordinary People, Extraordinary Things
by: Nicole Juliette Hetlyn
“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. Every single day, and in every walk of life, ordinary people do extraordinary things.Ordinary People accomplish Extraordinary Things.” -Jim Valvano
Starting off with the aforementioned quote from Jim Valvano’s inspiring ESPYS speech, Sink In aludes to their album title Ordinary People, Extraordinary Things (Standby Records). This album is a fun pop-rock album full of catchy songs and ambient vibes. Some of my favorite tracks on this album are the more upbeat pop tracks - “Higher” and “Get Out!”. Another standout track is “Off the Deep End.” This powerful song gave me chills with it’s heartbreaking lyrics. This song tells about a drug abusing mother who abandons her family, and you can hear the fear in the child’s voice as he read’s his “letter” to his mother. The closing track, “Glory Follows” is another track that transpires passion. This album is very well written, the lyrics are inspiring, fun, catchy, and powerful. The colossal amount of energy on this album has us ready to hear these songs live. Be sure to catch Sink In on tour (dates below) NOW!
