Hands Like Houses - Drift

Aussie rockers Hands Like Houses are back, and better than ever! Yesterday, Hands Like Houses announced that they have officially signed with Hopeless Records (as well as signing to UNFD in Australia and New Zealand). Along with this announcement, they celebrated this signing with the release of their newest single/video for “Drift.” From the first listen, I was already hooked on “Drift.” Hands Like Houses have such an electrifying sound that sets them apart from the rest. Trenton Woodley’s voice can go from pure, smooth rock, to the perfect falsetto, to screaming alongside of bassist/backing vocalist Joel Tyrrell and guitarist/backing vocalist Alexander Pearson. Lead guitarist Matt "Coops" Cooper shreds like no other, and Matt Parkitny is one hell of a drummer. The whole band compliments each other so well, they are so energetic and are always a blast to see live.
The lyrics in this song definitely hit home, I feel like this song came out right when I needed it. Trenton says "Drift" is about finding the connection: "Drift is about a momentary lapse in momentum, where everything is still long enough to question where you're going, where you've been and how they are somehow supposed to connect in the middle." A lyric that really stands out to me is “Wandering, weightless, empty, faded… I won’t fade away to nothing. If I say a prayer for someone, who will say a prayer for me?” I think we can all relate to a time of our lives - maybe even right now - where we all are questioning life. What’s next, and when will it happen? We all have our questions and doubts, and sometimes you need to scream it all out.
The overall sound on this song is heavier than the previous HLH songs, and I am absolutely in love. I must have listened to this song at least a dozen times already. The dissonant and screams helped to really drive these lyrics to my core. We’re excited to hear more new music from Hands Like Houses, and we can’t wait to see them on Warped Tour!
