BOHNES - 206: Act 1
By: Nicole Juliette Hetlyn
"It's been a long time since I gave a shit, so Imma flip the tables, turn this club into a moshpit."
BOHNES released 206:Act 1 on Friday, and we've had it on repeat since then. I first found out about this new release when a friend of mine played "My Friends," and we could easily identify the vocalist. BOHNES is Alex DeLeon (The Cab)'s new solo project and his voice is just as infectious. This album has a dark pop/alternative sound, with a central theme of day to day experiences and figuring out who you are. Several of the songs also have a darker undertone - "Six Feet Under," "Zombie Love," - maybe that is part of this new era? Whatever it is, we love the comparisons. One of my favorite lyrics is "our love is six feet under / yet it makes me wonder / maybe we can resurrect it tonight." We've all been in a relationship that is dying, but there's still a spark that is worth saving it for, even if it's killing you.
Another one of my favorite songs on 206 is "12 Rounds." With lyrics "when the reaper comes a knocking at my door / we'll be going 12 rounds / tell the devil I'll be coming back for more / we'll be going 12 rounds / 'cause I fight for everything I'd die for." This track shows DeLeon's strength and determination. It's a fun song to jam out to saying that you can try to take me down, but I'll keep fighting! I also love the track "My Friends." This is the first song that I heard from BOHNES, and I was instantly drawn. As DeLeon says, your demons are your friends, so you need to make friends with them forever. Overall, we're really psyched about this album. It's great to have new music from Alex DeLeon and it's very different (in a good way)! Act 2 will be released at a later date, and we're excited for that as well. In the meantime, be sure to check out 206: Act 1.
