If you are in or near Europe, consider yourself lucky! Avatar just wrapped up their American leg of the 2018 Avatar Country World Tour, and will be touring places such as Copenhagen, Madrid, and Paris this spring.  If you missed out, be sure to catch the show of a lifetime next tour.  I was fortunate enough to see their show in Milwaukee, and their performance is an unforgettable one.

The night opened with the only travelling stunt show you will ever need to see; Hellzapoppin.  They are not for the weak stomached, to say the least.  Hellzapoppin is a world-renowned circus sideshow featuring some of the deadliest stunts in live entertainment.  They have been recognized by Ripley’s Believe It or Not, Guinness Books of World Records, America’s Got Talent, Discovery Channel, and more.  If you like watching people balance chainsaws and lawnmowers on their face, swallow blades and swords, or push screwdrivers up into their skulls, be sure to keep up with Hellzapoppin.

As for The Brains, the first band of the night, they are “Canada’s most insanest, undeadest and bestest psychobilly horror-punks are back with their latest, greatest album to date.” They are comprised of Pat Kadaver on drums, Colin The Dead on bass, and Rene D La Muerte with vocals and guitar.

If you know me, you know that I always claim Avatar to be one of, if not the, best metal bands of all time. Now you forty-five year old Slayer fans might not agree with me in the slightest, but you do have to admit that it hardly gets better than this; incredible talent, theatrics, a positive atmosphere, and sense of belonging, all of which you will undoubtedly discover at an Avatar show.  Vocalist Johannes Eckerström called us not fans, not friends, but family of Avatar Country.  The band, without question, gets the gold medal for making a crowd feel at home.  Near the end of the show, he revealed to the audience that the night’s show broke an attendance record for a headlining tour.  Everybody in the venue repeatedly chanted “Avatar” for a several minutes, and I had never seen such a genuinely big smile on anyone’s face before.  Their relatively lengthy setlist consisted of old songs, new songs, and those in between, in addition to hearing Eckerström’s sass, wit, and humor between songs.  Their show is one of the greatest ones you will ever see, so if you cannot make it out to a show, be sure to grab a copy of their latest album, Avatar Country.
