Car Seat Headrest
By: Rickelle Hunt
Car Seat Headrest, the unique Indie Rock, band sold out the Royale in Boston, MA on September 13th. T hey are known for their idiosyncratic sounds and lyrics, which make their live performance so engaging. Car Seat Headrest consists of 5 members; Will Toledo (vocals, guitar, piano), Ethan Ives (guitar, bass, backing vocals), Seth Dalby (bass), and Andrew Katz (drums, percussion).
During the opening 3 songs, “Waves,” “Bodys,” and “Fill in the Blank,” I could feel the ground beneath me tremble with the crowds dancing and jumping. Their breakthrough album Teens of Denial (2016) soundtracked my angsty adolescent years in high school. Followed by the groundbreaking re-recording of Twin Fantasy (Face to Face) (2018). The overall production of this rendition was very polished from the original in 2011.
The group’s live performance is so striking, especially with Toledo’s eccentric and interpretive dance moves. The crowd sang along to every word of their hit songs “Drunk Drivers / Killer Whales” and “Destroyed By Hippie Powers”. Car Seat Headrest are a timeless talent and a band you don’t want to miss.
