Mac Powell and We Are Messengers
by Nicole Juliette Hetlyn
Monday night, New York was in for a night of worship, love, and awesome music. This was a unique show, sponsored by Lighthouse Events; We Are Messengers and Mac Powell (Third Day) brought their tour to my hometown to play a special show at Goodwill Church. Originally from Ireland, We Are Messengers kicked off the show on a very high note. Their energy was absolutely contagious. Vocalist Darren Mulligan was very personal with the crowd as well, letting them know that he wanted to bring them to Jesus. This wasn't just a typical concert, this was a night of worship and the power of God was felt throughout the room. I was blown away by this band, and am looking forward to hearing more from them.
Despite feeling under the weather, Mac Powell still put on a fantastic show. I've been seeing Mac play with his band Third Day for the past 10 years now. Mac did a mix of songs from Third Day, his solo music, hymns, and even some Lynyrd Skynyrd/ Johnny Cash covers. Mac has one of the coolest voices I have ever heard; it's such a cool, distinctive voice. As an Atlanta native, Mac and his band definitely brought some southern rock, along with their Christian rock sound. It was an awesome mixture of music, both old and new songs. The entire night was full of praise, worship, rock and roll, and a good time.
